Comfort Food – Booking Through Thursday

Okay . . . picture this (really) worst-case scenario: It’s cold and raining, your boyfriend/girlfriend has just dumped you, you’ve just been fired, the pile of unpaid bills is sky-high, your beloved pet has recently died, and you think you’re coming down with a cold. All you want to do (other than hiding under the covers) is to curl up with a good book, something warm and comforting that will make you feel better.

What do you read?

Hmmm, this is kind of a difficult question for me since if I am that down I will usually go for the movies instead of the books. If we are talking movies, my first picks would be Pride and Prejudice, Love Actually, Moulin Rouge, When Harry Met Sally, While You Were Sleeping. If I’m down, I don’t have the energy to even pick up a book. I also don’t tend to re-read books since I’m paranoid that I’m eventually going to run out of time and not be able to read all the books I want to read. Hmmm. :)

But a book that can always pick me up and make me feel loads better about myself and my situation is Bridget Jones. It is one of the few books that I’ve read more than once and will probably read again and again. I think good ole Bridge can make any down girl feel a little better.
What do you read/watch? Go here to play!

  1. I agree about movies, although I haven’t seen While You Were Sleeping. Moulin Rouge is my favourite – so much is going on and so funny.

  2. *Booksplease – but its also so heartbreaking. The tango at the end is one of my favorite parts. While you were Sleeping is all about the cheese for me. I’ve seen it so many times that it just screams comfort. Thanks for coming by!

  3. Trish – I usually can’t read when I’m really depressed. Movies are much better for me. Not nearly as much effort to exert!

While You Were Sleeping is cheeziness at it’s best!! And Bridgit Jones is one of my favorites as well!

  4. *Chris – I am ALWAYS in the mood for Love Actually!

    * Gautami – I prefer comedy as well if I’m feeling down–especially romantic comedy!

*Stephanie – Yes, if I’m down and blue I much prefer to watch a movie that I’ve seen a million times already. To me that is comfort!

*Heather – Ha ha! Like I said, I don’t usually read if I’m in a funk–brain candy is WAY too much effort!

*Alice – the movies are great, but I love the books. Somehow reading about poor Bridget’s Woes are much better! Have a great day.

  5. I would agree, that if I was too depressed I might not turn to books. And would instead turn to my all time favorite movies. But I been with books since I was kid. So books is comfort for me *grin*

I love your list of movies. I too have seen all of them, but think that “When Harry Met Sally” and “While You Were Sleeping” is comfort to watch for me. I might be the only one who have not yet, watch “Love Actually”. I think I better…LOL

Great choice of lists and answer. Happy BTT!

  6. *Cee cee – BJ is great; I love both the books–mostly because it tends to be a little mindless and sometimes a girl needs that. Thanks for coming by!

*Julia – If you like the rest of the movies, I’m sure you’ll like Love Actually. There is a huge cast of characters which makes each story line a little shorter, but its a great movie.

*Becca – Yup, me and Bridge go way back. ;) Thanks for stopping by

  7. *Melody – thanks! And also thanks for stopping by. I think I’m gonna go finish my book and then pop in one of these great movies! :)

  8. I’m with you on the movies, except Moulin Rouge – could never get into it – but for me, reading is more the thing – I tend to tune out television or movies.

I like your blog, and have blogrolled you. Hope you don’t mind.

  9. *Callista – Thanks for coming by! I’ll pop by and look at your BTT.

*Melissa – Of course I don’t mind, thanks for coming by! And I didn’t really care for Moulin Rouge the first time either, but its grown on me a lot since then.

  10. I’m like you in not being able to read and watching movies instead if I’m really down. Pride and Prejudice is always my first choice! The Bridget movies are good fun too.
