What I’ve Been Up To

Posted 14 November, 2011 by Trish in Life / 28 Comments

Can you believe that November is half over? Well, will be tomorrow anyway. And that Thanksgiving is 10 days away? Holy Hannah! Life is moving much quicker than I can these days. Lots of good times over the past few weeks but also some sad. One incident involving family health has me thinking about sweating the small stuff and focusing more on enjoying and experiencing.

Crawling and sitting (Elle–not me…) has me quite busy in the evenings when I get home from work. It’s such a joy to watch Elle scooting across the playroom towards this toy or that. However, I suspect she’s also teething and I’m afraid those top teeth are going to put up more of a fight than the bottom ones that just appeared one night. Oh wait–I totally did not mean for this to be a rambling post.

This is how I’ve been spending my time the past two weeks:

Singing ridiculous songs to the babe

Cutting Christmas Fabrics for Quilting Bee

Spending time with my Grandma

Making and freezing Carrot Baby Food. Mmmmm!

Making soup. Lots of Soup (this is actually Goulash)

Devouring fall apples (and making pie)

Cheering on Nick (#30). Sad the season is over!

Tell me–how have you been spending your extra time?

  1. Sounds pretty great! This week I’m busy wrapping up a job that’s ending and getting ready for travel next week. Travel prep is complicated by an intricate itinerary, Maisie, and being on the cusp of a maternity wardrobe that I don’t quite, fully, have yet.

  2. I can’t think of a comment that lands anywhere between “whiny snark” and “ooooh cute pictures!” Does “you take such great pictures!” count?

  3. Kay

Precious picture of Elle and your grandmother! That’s one to cherish forever. Cute one of you and Elle as well. Thinking about you and whatever is going on in your life. Deep breaths and “serenity now”. Hugs!

  4. Les

What wonderful photos! I love the one of Ellie with her great-grandma, but the one of the two of you is precious. Hope all is well with your family in the coming days…

You’ve inspired me. I’m off to make a grocery list for a couple of soup recipes this week!!

  5. Extra time, what’s that. Love your baby photos. Your quilting pieces look very good, will we see the finished project soon?

  6. Such a lovely age when baby becomes more independent.
    Nothing is safe now :)

Since my kids went back to school in Sept the months have flown by!
The eldest started college year at school, the middle one started his exam courses and my baby is in his last year at playschool.

    have a good week

  7. Trish, I love your pics! And I think you’ll make a great photographer!! :)

As for me, I’ve been trying to catch up on my reading aside from playing ‘Words with Friends’ on FB, lol.

  8. The picture of Elle and her great-grandma is a treasure! We’ve spent the past FOUR weekends on the road, so now I’m happy to be home for the rest of the year.

  9. What free time?! LOL…Mostly trying to read when I can…I love your pictures so much Trish!!! I still can’t get over how adorable Elle is :)

  10. Trish – you make life sound so idyllic! I am writing for Nano at the moment, so that is taking up most of my free time. But soon it will be time for Christmas preparations!

  11. Awww…sounds (and looks!) like you’ve been making your minutes count in lovely ways, Trish!

Me? Homeschool prep, getting house ready to go on market, homeschool prep, getting house ready to go on market, homeschool prep…yeah, you get the idea. :)

  12. Rae

So so jealous of that pic with Grandma and Elle. So sweet.
And yes, I am suuuuuuper lucky that people are coming to me! Jason comes out once or twice a year for work and I’m SO thrilled Elise and Hudson are coming with! Wish the timing was a little different because I’ll be in California the weekend before and we literally all fly to New York (on seperate flights) the same day. Oh well, I’ll take what I can get.
And I am SOOOO happy to have family here for Thanksgiving. That’s never happened. I don’t blame anyone because it makes no sense economically to come here, but it is SUCH a great time of year for New York, arguably the best, so I’m so happy to share it with some of my family. It’ll be nice to have them here for just fun, too, because anyone who comes out normally, other than my mom, is working and we squeeze in a quick din.
    Speaking of rambling…

  13. Wow! Elle is crawling already! She’s a super fast learner! :)

That quilt looks like it’s going to be amazing! And it makes me exceted for the holidays that are JUST around the corner!

So are you making big batches of soup and things and freezing them? Have you found that certain dishes freeze better than others?

  14. *Amanda – It sounds like the writing is going really well, though!!

*Wordlily – Any good soup recipes? And wow—your travel sounds kind of intense. I hope it’s a great trip for you. And yes, I totally commiserate with you on the maternity wardrobe. Shed many tears during that time!

*Lisa – Well, despite how it looks—I’m not drowning in oodles of time (though I admit I’ve become a TV bum). Feel free to be a whiny snark anytime…

*Bermuda – It is really fun watching Elle change so much every day! It’s amazing the difference in just a few short months.

*Kay – We were also lucky to visit my Grandma in Utah a few weeks ago and I loved watching her with Elle. I’m so glad that we were able to spend that time together. And thank you so much for the thoughts, serenity now, and hugs.

*Les – Over the past six months I’ve taken hundreds of pictures of Elle but sadly not many of the two of us together! Need to fix that. Ooooh, hope your soup is yummy and warms the soul. Great time of year for that. ;)

*Irene – LOL! I think this post is a bit deceiving. Wish I could say I was just sitting around with oodles of time. ;-) In terms of the quilt, I’ll post progress but it sadly won’t be finished this Christmas. I’m participating in a Quilting Bee and am at the mercy of the other participants!

*Softdrink – Ha! I think I’ve finally come to the realization that I shouldn’t buy anymore books until I’ve actually finished something. Bought anything good??

*Dizzy C/Carol – And why are light sockets such a fascinating thing for babies? Ha! Sounds like your kids are busy busy! You’ve got your hands full.

*Melody – Definitely an amateur photographer, but thank you. And I’ve heard LOTS about Words with Friends. Glad you enjoy it. ;)

  15. *JoAnn – FOUR weekends on the road? I’ll bet you’ll be glad to stay home this weekend!

*Vasilly – Yes, she does scoot! She’s not crawling yet, but I have a feeling it’ll come within the next few weeks.

*Chris – I’m glad I’m not the only one who is having a tough time fitting in the reading (though I’m sad that we’re short on free time).

*Vivienne – Ha! Maybe I need to post a “what life is really like” post so you can all see that life is crazy!! ;) Hope NaNo is going well for you–and I can’t believe that it’s already almost Christmas!

*Debi – House on the market?!?!?!

*Rae -Elle LOVES Grandma. Was so so sweet seeing them together. And ramble on anytime. Sounds like your Thanksgiving is going to be a really great one. Will you go see the parade or do any other fun (and obnoxious) touristy things?

*Andi – Thanks for coming by Andi. I’m sure you know how fast time moves with a baby!

*Laura – Not quite crawling yet–just scooting at this point, but she’s getting pretty good! I’m excited about the quilt but the downside is the varying sewing abilities of the other participants. I can’t wait to see what comes back, though! And I’ll let you know about the freezer food. Have made some but haven’t defrosted anything yet!

  16. What, crawling and sitting? I thought that I saw her a few days ago, what is going on, no update? I want to see, and pinch her squishy thighs!!

  17. I can’t believe Thanksgiving is next week either?! What the deuce?
Busy with work and being a homebody. I prefer staying home and knitting, watching TV, laughing with the hubby. It’s all good. But I am excited about the holidays. Real tree this year and I always like cookiepalooza :)
Hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving Trish.

  18. I can’t believe that she is getting big enough to be crawling and scooting…how time flies! It sounds like you have a wonderful couple of weeks with lots of yummy food :)

  19. *Brooke – Not quite crawling yet–more army crawl. And we’re working on the sitting up. She can…until she realizes it…and then she falls over. :)

*Jenny Girl – Ha! And now Thanksgiving is THIS week. Ahhhh!! I’m a homebody as well and very nice with the real tree! Will make your house smell so lovely.

*Care – This and that are always good things to be doing. ;) And thanks about the picture–wish she didn’t have a funny scowl on her face, but ah well.

*Michelle – Not sure why your comments are going to spam. :( And I have to say that trying to take pictures of Grandma is almost has difficult as taking pictures of the baby! She is SO distracted! Ha!!! It’s almost like she’s decided she’s had enough pictures in her life and doesn’t need anymore. :)

*Samantha – I’m sure you think the same thing about your kiddos all the time–time goes too fast!
