When I read that we were only supposed to answer 5 of 10 questions for this post in an effort to keep our posts short, I admit I went into a panic attack. Me? Brief? Bahahahaha!! But my best I will do.
1. Who am I? How long have I been blogging? Why did I get into blogging?
My name is Trish and I'm a 30-something woman, wife, mom, cube worker, reader, quilter, cook, phototaker, and rambler. I've been blogging for FIVE years tomorrow!! I got into blogging via Yahoo book groups. Let me tell you that this has been so much better than those book groups!
2. What am I currently reading? Best read of 2012 so far?
I'm currently reading THE STAND!! For my Standalong (readalong of The Stand). Nope, not too late to join us. My favorite book of 2012 so far is Wild by Cheryl Strayed--a memoir about hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. Honest and beautiful.
4. Favorite Feature on my Blog?
Operation Use My Kitchen Gadgets. Each month of 2012 I am challenging myself to use a specific kitchen gadget. So far I've done Crockpot, Food Processor, and most recently Springform Pan. The Pin it Do It Pinteresting Challenge was also a big hit and I'll have an encore challenge in October.
7. Dinner with any character?
What about drinks with Bridget Jones? I think I've said enough.
9. Favorite part about the book blogging community?
I don't think that I'm saying anything new by noting that the actual community--the relationships and connections--the friendships and the growth--those are my favorite things. I've loved getting to know these wonderful people who have been there to support and love in tough times and to laugh and smile in the good times. I couldn't ask for more.

Drinks with Bridget Jones? Can I come? :-)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite childhood book was Anne of Green Gables and I have loads of copies of it in English and in Polish. I remember watching The Little Princess on tv and would love to read that one though!
Something about me that you don't already know? I'm a total feng shui convert! We got our house done recently and I love the way it feels now. Strange but true.
I read The Stand years ago and absolutely loved it!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite childhood book was Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
I LOVE that you do a kitchen gadget challenge! How fun! I will now be following your blog. :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite childhood book was Make Way for Ducklings!

My BEA Intro
My favourite childhood book (or at least one of my favourites, because to choose just one is very difficult!) is The Brothers Lionheart by Astrid Lindgren.
ReplyDeleteirisonbooks [at] gmail [dot] com
I very much enjoy your kitchen utensils posts too! It is such an original feature, but also tackles a subject that I'm sure everyone recognizes (buying wonderful kitchen stuff and then never using it properly because "there is no time").
Oh, and can I just say that that is one lovely picture of yourself? :)
Oh, and I'm not sure if I did this before. I have been to your blogiversary post, but um, I don't think I left a comment as I was in such a hurry the past weeks. Anyway, happy blog anniversary! Five years is such an achievement!
DeleteOoooh, those books are yummy! Love the colors. My favorite childhood book was "Harriet the Spy". I still have my well-worn copy.
ReplyDeleteHave a great bloggiversary and BEA week!
Happy Blogoversary and congrats on blogging for five years!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...my favorite childhood book...I would have to say Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, which I recently re-read. I always loved the puns and the word play.
Oh, and hlindskold (at) btweenthecovers (dot) com.
DeleteBRIDGET JONES!! Awesome answer!! And I love that you're doing a readalong of The Stand. I've been told multiple times to read it but it's so. freaking. long. I wish I would have known sooner and I'd have cleared my schedule better!
ReplyDeleteFavorite childhood book.. James and the Giant Peach! Thanks!
imabookshark at yahoo got com.
Mickey @ imabookshark
Come visit my introduction? Thanks!
Those are so pretty! I think I'd choose The Secret Garden and save it for LE.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite childhood book is hard, but likely The Girl with the Silver Eyes by Someone I Can't Remember.
I can never settle on favorite anythings, but I'll go with Caddie Woodlawn, in order to pick one not already mentioned.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite childhood book depends on what age I suppose. Very little = The Twelve Dancing Princesses. A bit older = The Secret Garden. Speaking of which I never read the other book by Burnett, A Little Princess, so I suppose that is the one I would want!
ReplyDeletenbmars AT yahoo DOT com
My favorite childhood books were the Famous Five series by Enid Blyton. I loved going on adventures with this gang! Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteonehotstove AT gmail DOT com
Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail is something I have always dreamed about so this is a book I have to read!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite childhood book was Akin to Anne, short stories about orphans by LM Montgomery.
perogies.gyoza at gmail.com
So much good stuff!!! I'm so glad we finally connected. I didn't realize you were in the Yahoo groups, too! How the heck did we miss each other back then too!?
ReplyDeleteFave childhood book: anything paranormal. Or involving a female superhero (She-Ra!).
Yes!! Drinks with Bridget Jones would be pretty awesome. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I was growing up, my parents had a book of bedtime stories that I loved listening to. It was a collection of fairy tales, but it was broken up so a little bit would be read for every night of the year. I still have it on my shelf!
readinginwinter(AT)gmail.com
This is fun! I must have read A LITTLE PRINCESS a zillion times when I was a child. I was a bookish child and had a favorite tree where I could disappear and read!
ReplyDeleteVISIT ME AT BOOK KEEPING
Happy blogiversary! Favorite childhood book? There's so many! Maybe The Baby-Sitters Club series by Ann M. Martin.
ReplyDeleteThis was fun! I agree that the people that I have become friends with are the important part of the blogging community. I always feel like I am connecting more and more with people. Actually using Twitter helps. It is there I talk to people I don't generally talk to much otherwise. It is great to have you in the blogging community, Trish. Your videos for the readathons are one of the things that sticks out for me when I look back over my own years of blogging. You have a very distinct personality. :) Here's to many more years of blogging.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite childhood book was probably Anne of Green Gables.
Thanks for dropping by my Armchair BEA post. I'm going to have to check out your kitchen gadgets feature - I could stand to use mine a bit more :-)
ReplyDeletehehe, I liked having the questions to pick from - I'm never quite sure what to say in an intro, but this was fun :o)
ReplyDeleteFavorite childhood book: Oh geez, probably the entire Little House on the Prairie series...Good stuff. Life-changing ;o)
((I'm a reply-enabled blogger, so my e is there :o) ))
How beautiful are those books?! Love them. My favorite childhood book was the whole Little House on the Prairie series by Laura Ingalls Wilder--I can't pick just one.
ReplyDeleteDrinks with Bridget Jones? Brilliant!! I wish I could have thought of as good an answer for that question as you did.
ReplyDeleteLove your 're'-introduction, as I've known you since way back when...and you're right, this is way better than a book club. Remember when you one the first prize for my first Japanese Literature Challenge?
Sorry to be such an idiot in my Tweet yesterday about you giving away 250 books. ;) It's good you've known me a long time, and know that I'm not always idiotic. xo
Five years is no small milestone. Congrats! I agree, the community of book bloggers is amazing. I have discovered books, both new pubs and old, that I might have not ever discovered on my own.
ReplyDeleteI should definitely visit your kitchen gadgets feature - I am not much of a cook (luckily my husband loves cooking) but I do want to learn to be better at it.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on five years!!! I hope I am still going strong at the 5 year mark - I've been blogging just a little over two years.
Here's my Armchair BEA Intro Post.

My favorite childhood book is The Wizard of Oz ... or probably one in that series but it's been so long since I last read them all that they kind of blend together in my mind. I need to get on the rereading soon! Happy blogiversary too, Trish! You're a unique member of the community -- you always make me smile!
ReplyDeletewebereadingATgmailDOTcom
Hey Trish, love the photo:) I'm not participating in the Armchair BEA, but reading all of the posts has been fun. It's always great learning a bit more about fellow book bloggers.
ReplyDelete5 years, that's wonderful!!! Congrats to you. I adored the book "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh" when I was little. Such a wonderful book.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite book as a child was Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. Such a good book. I don't know if my mom still has my copy or if she gave it to one of my other siblings. It's one I really want my kids to read.

We were only supposed to answer 5 questions?? Whoops. I guess I can't follow directions. ;)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite childhood book was Harriet the Spy
ReplyDeletethrouthehaze at gmail dot com
As a child, my favorite book was Anne of Green Gables. I visited Prince Edward Island and I was even more enamored. Although not an orphan, I completely understood how she felt being the odd one out.
ReplyDeleteThanks again,

One of my favorite childhood books would be A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I gave it to my friend, and I never got it back. I have been hoarding my books ever since.

And something you don't know.. hmm.. when I quit something, such as anything from a drink, a friend, to a family member.. I really do.
You only get so many chances to rub me the wrong way, and once you've reached my Tolerance Threshold, that is the end of it, & I do not forgive.

I really liked the Dr. Seuss books when I was little, along with Harry Potter and A Series of Unfortunate Events! I don't think I've read any of those classics! Thanks! readspect_reviews@hotmail.com

DeleteThat's definitely my favourite thing about the book blogging community as well :) It's kind of an added bonus since I didn't fully expect that when I started blogging either.
ReplyDeleteI loved reading fairytales when I was younger along with a lot of mythology. Apart from that, I had a huge thing for the Mary Kate and Ashley books LOL. Thanks so much for the giveaway!

Happy Blogoversary! Congrats on 5 years - that is impressive!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite children's book from my childhood is The Little Prince (in French or English). I loved reading about the little prince and his rose and how he learned so many great things like about friendship. :)
Something about me that you don't know... I went to school for Graphic Design and Arts many moons ago, but never ended up working in the field (I'm completely out of the loop for programs etc), but I now work at a bank processing mortgage documents and the like. :)
Cheers and have fun during Armchair BEA! Thank you for the chance to win one of those lovely books. :)
I need to try that kitchen gadget challenge. I'm a baking queen, but when it comes to cooking food for meals...blah. I'm really good with my microwave and maybe the toaster.
ReplyDeleteAlthough even as a child I had an inherent love of the classics, I always had my nose buried in a Nancy Drew book. I so wanted to be her.
I loved the Narnia books when I was a kid, followed by the Anne of Green Gables books when I was in junior high. I still love those Anne books!
ReplyDeleteakreese at hotmail dot com
Drinks with Bridget? There would be no need for dinner - you'd never get to it!
ReplyDeleteI loved books like The Sweet Pickles series, Amelida Bedelia, Harry, the Dirty Dog, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, I could go on and on.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity!
fforgnayr@yahoo.com
Can I join you and Bridget for drinks? Please???
ReplyDeleteI love the photo of you! A true new mom photo :-) Nice little meme too to get to know you a little better.
ReplyDeleteI still can't find a copy of The Stand! This is ridiculous, two months ago it was everywhere, and now that I want to read it, its' nowhere! Otherwise I'd be joining the group read-a-long. I hope you are enjoying reading it. It's one of my favourite books by him.
*Thank you all for your welcoming comments and childhood memories and for visiting. Great to see so many familiar faces but also some new ones as well!
