meme for a rainy day

My goal for the rest of the month is to not go days without posting (like more than 3 days...I will NOT be post every day). But today I'm using my Meme for a Rainy Day (or in other words something I've had drafted for a while), so after today there's no telling what will happen.

So, remember when some folks asked me 11 questions and then I had to make up my own 11 questions for some more folks to answer? I loved my 11 questions so much that I decided I wanted to answer them too! (you see now why this is a rainy day post...)

1. What app do you love above all others? Not an app person? What about website?
Oh you mean besides twitter? (hangs head in shame). I really don't use many apps on my phone but I ADORE Pandora. This is a recent discovery but I loooourve. Most of the time I'm listening to Vampire Weekend or Phoenix Radio but for workouts its Lady GaGa radio and when I'm moody Ryan Adams Radio.

2. Describe your dream profession (sky is the limit)
A duel bookstore/quilt shop owner with a bakery in the corner. I'd keep up with this between jaunts as a broadway dancer/singer and teaching daily step aerobics classes. Tell me that wouldn't be awesomeness.

3. Appetizers or dessert?
Oh man this is tough. When I cook/entertain I rarely do appetizers but will sometimes to dessert. When we eat out we sometimes do appetizers but then are too full for dessert. So it depends. And goes back to the savory/sweet debate!

4. If you could be BFF with any fictional character, who would you choose?
Surely you guys know the answer to this, right? Really? Bonus points to the person who guesses correctly.

5. I say BLUE. What immediately comes to mind?
The sky.

6. Favorite song to blast and sing in your car with the windows down.
There are seriously so many, but I think my absolute favorite is Take Me out to a Dance Hall by Pat Green. This song defines my college years (the video isn't a real music video but the song...makes me smile).

7. What fashion fad makes you hang your head in shame?
Stirrup pants with the oversized sweatshirt. Limited Too would have been so much cooler if everyone hadn't been wearing the same exact outfit in 7th grade.

8. What are your thoughts on 80s Hair Bands?
I'm a big fan. Every time that Paxton has Billy the Kid week on his blog I feel that he must post Bon Jovi's Blaze of Glory. I mean...check out that hair.

9. What is a book you wanted to throw across the room? What is one you wanted to hug?
Throw across the room - Brothers Karamazov. I might have except for the fear that I would severely hurt someone. Hug - Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

10. Imagine you are an aerobics instructor--what song must be on your playlist?
Evacuate the Dancefloor.

11. What's for dinner tonight?
BBQ Pork Chops on the George Foreman with some roasted green beans and either sweet potato or red potatoes.

Bonus: What's your favorite go-to lipstick (including color)
Does Carmex count? I would love to wear lipstick but have never found the right color or the right consistency.

I know many of you shared some of your answers with me already, but I'd love to hear your take on these questions!

  1. I love your shop idea! Lots of different elements to it, although your book shop could specialise in quilting and baking, maybe?

I'd love to do something with books too, maybe being an agent or editor, finding new books!

  2. I was going to respond here, but I think I'll post my meme answers later tonight. I haven't participated in a meme in a long, long time!

I've never really gotten into Pandora. My hubby uses iHeartRadio, so I installed it on my phone, but only used it that first day. I'm usually listening to audio books these days.

I love that Pat Green song!! Need to add it to my iTunes library. Thanks!

Oh, and I'm right there with you with regards to the lipstick. I usually just go with Burt's Bees lip balm. I used to use a Clinique lipstick, but it's been years. I should visit Bellezza and have her pick out the perfect color for my complexion. :)

    Have a great Tuesday, Trish!

  3. Your answers were so fun to read. My favorite app is definitely "scrabble" - 3,500 games in one year...LOL

  4. Hm, I'm trying to figure out what character you would be. I've never heard of that song or that singer - is my age showing?

  5. I would love to volunteer in a library. I don't know if I'd want it as my career because I actually enjoy what I do.

Is number four Bridget Jones? I need to go back and read it again. I read it thinking it was supposed to be a modern Pride and Prejudice and it ruined the book for me. I read Edge of Reason when I was really sick last year and found it hilarious. I'm guessing I would actually like it if I gave it another shot knowing what to expect. I will probably find it v. funny. :)

When I think of blue, I think of everyone's eyes in my family, except mine. My kiddos got my husband's eye color. Mine are hazel. I don't mind. I like being different. :)

I'm too embarrassed to sing with the windows down, but my go to song for singing in the car right now is Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men.

  6. *Judith - Lately I've been thinking that a little bakery that also teaches classes--like birthday parties and girls night out--would be fun but where to start! ;)

*Les - Can't wait to see your answers!! :) And funny that you mention Bellezza because I've also wondered if she could find me the perfect shade. I know she's a big fan of red but I've never been able to find one for my skin tone. I'll need to check out iheartradio. Haven't heard it before!

*Diane - Do you play Words with Friends? Seems everyone is playing that together!

*Bermuda - Nah--I wouldn't consider Pat Green to be a "big" singer--he used to just be Texas college scene until a few years ago.

*Kristi - It's awesome that you enjoy what you do! I do too but I would love a bit more singing/quilting/bookish silliness. Ha! ;) And yes, you're absolutely right about #4. I think mostly because I like how honest she is--she's absolutely ridiculous! ;) I don't think you're the only one who isn't a big fan of the first book. And LOVE Little Talks!! Great choice!

  7. If you add a little coffee shop into that store I'll come run it for you. (the cafe, not the bakery). That would be a dream come true- a cafe/bookstore/quilt shop with FRIENDS. I just read a series of books where the three women had a art gallery/bookstore/day spa called Indulgence. Sounds perfect.

    1. *Lisa - Let's do it! Hey--if I could figure out how to make it work and had the capital... What was the series?

  8. First off this is a great idea, Rainy Day Meme. Second I love Lisa's idea of an art gallery/bookstore/day spa/quilt shop cafe, of course we'd have to be independently wealthy, since we'd probably not make much money. I'll bake and do the book shelves, (maybe windows). We could have a sleepover area, so if you quilted or scrapped till the wee hours you could sleepover. And now to the meme...
    1. I don't do apps. My phone is so old... I think my "thing" would have to be wikepedia.
    2. I'm living my dream profession, I'm a mom, and I do anything I like in between, I read, I sew, I upholster, I do restoration, I scrap, I paint, I and the list goes on. I don't make any money at any of these "professions", I married well.
    3. Appetizers or dessert, WELL often when we go out I will just order appetizers and dessert, skip the entre. I'm usually disappointed, at home with company I like to drag out the meal so my guests, and I can enjoy both. I hate skipping dessert because I'm too full.
    4. My BFF to a fictional characters would have to be Rosemary and Thyme from the British series. Imagine being with a real gardener, and CRIME. Love it.
    5. When you say BLUE, I think Cookie Monster.

6.I rarely blast a song out my car windows, but if I have to chose it would be, "Teacher leave those kids alone" Pink Floyd. I was a nasty mom and sent a copy of this each summer break to nasty teachers.
    7. I can't honestly say any fashion statement makes me want to hang my head in shame. I think "this is fashion" of the time.
    8. Big hair bands, Meh! can take it or leave it.
    9. A book I could throw across the room, I can't do that, well maybe... A book I could hug. You are my Only, by Beth Kephart.
    10. Me being an aerobics instructor would be quite a stretch to the imagination, but here it goes... nah I can't think of music and aerobics together.
    11. What's for dinner tonight? Fajitas.

    1. *Irene - Love your idea about a sleepover place in the quilt/book/sweet shop! ;) I love your answer to your dream profession. It's wonderful to be living the dream, isn't it? You're very lucky!! And it is difficult not to yell outloud: "Hey Teacher!" when listening to Pink Floyd. Thanks for playing along!!

  9. I love Evacuate the Dancefloor. I play it most mornings to get me up and out the door.

    1. *Linda - It's tough to sit still while listening to Evacuate the Dancefloor, huh? ;)

  10. 1. What app do you love above all others? Not an app person? What about website?
I love my Pepperplate app on my Nook. Any recipe I see on the internet, I can put it in Pepperplate and then download it to my Nook. It’s been great for cooking! I also adore Pandora. I have a speaker system for my iPhone in the kitchen, so I plug it in so I can listen to music while I’m cooking.

    2. Describe your dream profession (sky is the limit)
Anything to do with books, preferably just sitting at home and reading them! lol

    3. Appetizers or dessert?
Appetizers. I’ve been known to just have appetizers for dinner. The kids love those nights. I just make 4 or 5 appetizers and we all get a little bit of all our favorites. Then there’s room for dessert!
    4. If you could be BFF with any fictional character, who would you choose?
Well, I’m pretty sure Katniss Everdeen couple keep me protected and fed in a crisis…. I’ll go with her, since I can’t think of anyone else at the moment and I’m hungry.

    5. I say BLUE. What immediately comes to mind?
    My dog.

    6. Favorite song to blast and sing in your car with the windows down.
    Remedy by Seether
    7. What fashion fad makes you hang your head in shame?
The neon colors of the early 90s.

    8. What are your thoughts on 80s Hair Bands?
Kinda tired of them. My hubby and brother-in-law still love them and I’m just so over it man.

    9. What is a book you wanted to throw across the room? What is one you wanted to hug?
Like Water for Chocolate. Oh wait, I actually DID throw it across the room. I did hug The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. Hugged the next one in the series too, The Wise Man’s Fear.

    10. Imagine you are an aerobics instructor--what song must be on your playlist?
    Bad Romance by Lady Gaga

    11. What's for dinner tonight?
    Shredded Pork Tacos with Guacamole.
Bonus: What's your favorite go-to lipstick (including color)
I don’t really wear anything. Just chapstick. So, I guess, clear?

    1. *Heather - Katniss would make a great protective BFF but she's so serious. Maybe with a few drinks in her. ;) And I love your idea for appetizers for dinner! What a fun treat for the kids. Kind of like Breakfast for Dinner--something fun about breaking the "rules." Glad I'm not the only one for Like Water for Chocolate. I wanted to love the book but just didn't quite get it! Shredded Pork Tacos. Mmmmmm.

  11. Fun post! I am pretty sure I answered this when you posted it before, but I did a lot of them at the time. I will have to double-check! Maybe I just remember seeing it around a lot.

  12. Is it Bridget Jones? I didn't read previous comments in case someone else already guessed :) I love your dream profession idea, of course...minus the step aerobics part! Now how to make it happen? And seriously...you need to check out Clinique's "Chubby Sticks"--don't think there are tons of color options, but they are the perfect mix between lipstick and gloss!

    ReplyDelete
  13. fun fun fun :) And I STILL have to read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close!!! It's been on my list forever becaue of you!! I own it...just have to read it now...

  14. Love the big hair bands! Takes me back to my teen years, which is both good and bad :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm a no-lipstick kind of girl too. I just haven't found the right color yet though I did find a lovely lip gloss. Why did my mother buy my daughter a pair of stirrup pants? :-0 Why?!

Thinking about your fictional BFF character. . .

    ReplyDelete
  16. *Kailana - Honestly I don't remember who I tagged for this--I know that so many had already been tagged that most of my folks were non-book bloggers!

*Laura - You are correct! I figured I've dropped enough hints about Bridge Jones that you guys would have gotten it. ;) Next time I"m at the mall I'll check out the chubby sticks. I've been using some Loreal lip gloss but it's kind of sticky...

*Chris - YOU MUST READ EXTREMELY LOUD AND INCREDIBLY CLOSE NOW!!!

*Stacybuckeye - Some of those Monster Ballads are so cheesy but they're also too much fun. ;)

*Vasilly - I've been wearing lip gloss (in the mornings) as well but it's sticky and fades quickly. Oh well...chapstick usually works for me. And Bridget Jones was the correct answer. ;)

  17. Bridget Jones would make such a great bestie!

  18. I enjoyed reading your answers, and your little one is just too stinking cute. I can remember when you first announces your pregnancy to the blogosphere. Wow! I haven't read Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close -- I've been on the fence about whether to read it. I had mixed feelings about Everything is Illuminated.

    ReplyDelete
  19. *Melissa - I spill coffee on myself almost daily. I have a feeling that Bridget Jones would make me feel SO much better about myself. ;)

*Stephanie - LOL--time passes quickly, huh? Seems like forever ago that I announced the pregnancy. Still can't believe that Elle is not a baby anymore! ;) I haven't read Everything is Illuminated but I have a feeling that if you didn't like that one you might not like Extremely Loud either--I've heard that stylistically they are similar.

  20. I'm a bit older, so I wore my stirrup pants and oversized sweatshirts with high heels. and possibly the little ankle socks too. depends on the day :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ack! Is that a country music song on your blog???

Can we still be friends if I confess my hatred of country music?

    ReplyDelete
  22. *Jenny Girl - Whewwwwwie! I bet those stirrup pants with the high heels were hot. With leg warmers, too? ;) Too funny.

*Softdrink - LOL! Yes, as long as we can still be friends even though I do like country.

  23. I have always wanted to have a bookstore - and seriously considered a bakery. Except that if you own a bakery, you have to be in the store at 3 a.m. and I'd much rather that be the time I'm going to bed!

Too funny what Jill said - for someone who lives in farm country (although I'm a city girl), I often shock people with my dislike of country music. Suddenly Miss H has taken to it, though so I'm having to learn to tolerate it. I did draw the line at listening to Brad Paisley during driving lessons the other night.
