#Standalong Check-in
Hi kids! We're scheduled to be around the halfway point on July 1st. Some of you are overachievers (yes, this is me glaring at you--lovingly of course) and some of you haven't started yet. Not really sure what we should do for a check-in.
How are you doing with your reading progress? Are you enjoying? If you're on twitter make sure you're checking out #Standalong for fun little conversations or questions or ranting or... ;)
Do you want to skip the mid-way check-in? Do you want to push up the final deadline (think we have July 21st slated but I could be wrong)? Tell me what you're thinking...
Discuss...
EDITED: I think there are enough of us who are only partially through that we'll keep the deadlines the same. Glad you're all enjoying the book!!!

I'm one of those stupid overacheivers. I just couldn't put it down, sorry! I'm fine with pushing it up or keeping it the same. I'll save my complete review until whenever the final date is and I'll skip the midway check in so I don't give away any details by accident.
ReplyDeleteMelissa - I didn't use the word stupid. ;) I'm a bit envious of you guys who are already finished! But then I remember that I'm only 40% of the way through and have a LONG way to go!
DeleteGulp, I'm an underachiever...just downloaded it to my Nook...does that even count?
ReplyDeletePeppermint PhD - It counts. No worries...think we'll keep the same deadlines.
DeleteI was pacing myself for the original check-in dates, but I have time that I can pick up the pace if needed. I'm fine with what everyone else decides.
ReplyDeleteKristi - like you I've been pacing myself and have a few other books I need to read before finishing this one. Think we need to keep in mind there are about 30 people participating!
DeleteI'll probably be done with it by the end of the week (can't stop reading!). I don't feel the need to rush anything though, I'd rather wait for readers who started a little later or decided to pace their reading. :) I've started writing a midway post but I can simply schedule it for the midway check in, whenever that will be.
ReplyDeleteKay - I'm so so glad that you're enjoying the book! You make a great point about waiting for the readers who started a bit late thinking they had a later deadline.
DeleteI'm at Chapter 44 and would love to have a midway post just to see what everyone thinks! 'Course, I just started keeping up with the #standalong conversations on Twitter, so that could be cool, too. I love, LOVE this book and it's validating for me my love for Stephen King's writing!
ReplyDeleteNatalie - Let's stick to the regular schedule and give a chance to everyone to keep up. Speaking of the #standalong conversation, did you see the Captain Trips t-shirts that Fizzy Jill found? Love! I'm really loving Stephen King's writing as well--and Grover Gardener's narration is fantastic!
DeleteI swear I'm dying from Captain Trips. If I ever recover (more like if I can stay awake long enough), I'll write a mid-way post (even though I overachieved) on my thoughts on the first half.
ReplyDeleteJilly Bean - Yup, I think I've got the Captain Trips as well. No rush on the halfway post--we're not scheduled until July 1.
DeleteI cannot stand Harold. is rhat a spoiler?
ReplyDeleteCare - LOL!! I don't know Harold well enough yet to not be able to stand him.
DeleteI needed a "Stand" break so I stopped at about chapter 35 and read something else, but I'll be ready to go back to read to the halfway point by the weekend. Whatever the majority wants to do is fine with me. Sorry, haven't had time to check on the twitter chat.
ReplyDeleteDiane - You sound like you're on pretty good pace. No worries about being behind--everyone is definitely at very different spots.
Deletesince I don't tweet, the half way check in is good for me.
ReplyDeleteIrene - Halfway we'll do. :)
DeleteI'm about halfway thru the book and don't know how or if I'll do a midway post. I'm afraid I'm going to release unnecessary spoilers. But, if there is a midway
ReplyDeletePost, I can come up with something relevant to talk about since this is my second reading.
I'll probably be finished with the book in the next week. I'll end up writing my post right away so I don't forget anything but I'm okay with keeping our deadline for how it is. I'd hate to think others are missing out.
And folks. Seriously. Use the hashtag. Some of those convos have been great!
Christina - I've been loving the #standalong tweets. My favorite thing is that the group of readers is SO varied but you guys are all a crack up. Love it! If you can wait to post your final post that would probably be great (even if you just schedule it). I'll probably just do a rambling post ala Care for the midway point.
DeleteI'm an overachiever and finished the book over the weekend. I just couldn't stop reading! As I said on Twitter, I've been checking in on my own blog at the each of book/part as I find it to be a more natural point for me to gather my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteSince I finished it, I was planning on skipping the midway check-in (don't want to spoil things for everyone else!) and rejoining the party in July so either way works for me.
Ardent Reader - I can't believe so many of you have finished already! ;) Feel like a slacker. I've only finished Part 1 so will look for your update on that--feel free to link it during the halfway point!
DeleteOMG are you kidding?? Halfway through?? I need to do some serious reading! LOL...I'm off Sunday, I totally need to just spend the whole day with this book!! Note: I started sneezing my head off today and got so paranoid I cannot even explain :p
ReplyDeleteI read this in college. LOVED it! Best Stephen King novel ever. :-)
ReplyDelete*Chris - I'm listening to the audio so that's really helped me speed up the process. I'm having to stop now to read/listen to Ready Player One. Don't worry about being behind--I think you can catch up quickly.
ReplyDelete*Stephanie Ward - I'm so enjoying it!! I've never read anything by King before so it's been quite the experience.
My mother's nursing home is in "Outbreak". so I'm freaking out every time she sneezes. I break the rules and go in to see her. I need to KNOW what's going on with her.
ReplyDelete*Irene - Hopefully Captain Trips hasn't made a visit to your area but I understand how you feel! I swear I got sick AS SOON as I started reading The Stand. Still feel foggy...
ReplyDeleteI'm doing pretty good. Had to put the Stand down for another book that I'm scheduled to review, and was actually sad about it. Not that I didn't want to read this other book, I just was on a roll. Even started my check in post which will be all random thoughts.
ReplyDeleteHow is your reading coming along?
I was thinking about this since I actually finished it and have been holding off on my review. I want to post it at the end. I was not sure what to post for the mid point check in. I will wait for your decision and do whatever everyone want. It really makes little difference to me other than coming up with what to talk about.
ReplyDeleteI did really enjoy it. I actually had a hard time putting it down after the struggle of learning all of the characters. I am glad that I joined in. Stephen King was not at all what I had expected.
I stopped reading last week (around page 600 or so) to read an Oz book and a few comic books. I started back again this weekend. I'm around page 900 right now. If I'd picked the edited copy, I'd be done. But I actually have over 200 pgs left.
ReplyDeleteI'm liking it. That's all I'll say for now.
