El Ateneo bookstore in Buenos Aires, Argentina
If you ever find yourself in Buenos Aires, visit El Ateneo--it's an old theater converted into a bookstore. The stage is now a patisserie/cafe and is a wonderful stopping place for tired feet. Visited in 2009 when my sister was living abroad. Another very cool picture here (not mine).
Where in the World Are You Reading? August theme: Local Bookstore. While it's not local to ME, it's local to the Argentines. ;)

I want to go here!!!!
ReplyDeletePretty darn stunning.
ReplyDeleteWow, amazing! Somehow I don't anticipate going to B.A. anytime soon, so it's great to get to go there vicariously! :--)
ReplyDeleteCool!! One of my best friends lives in Argentina and I am supposed to visit her one day.
ReplyDeleteStunning!! I wish I could visit!!
ReplyDeleteWow. It's sort of hard to fathom that that bookstore exists in the real world! It seems like something one might dream about in their wildest daydreams. How did you ever drag yourself out of there? ;)
ReplyDelete*Debi - It was tough for us to drag ourselves out because we knew it was going to be a long trek back to the apartment...in winter. I don't remember how much we walked that day but it was insane! The bookstore/cafe was a wonderful respite!
DeleteWhat a beautiful bookstore! I wish there was something like that around here!
ReplyDeleteBreathtaking! You'd have a really, really hard time getting me out of there!
ReplyDeleteOh, I would love to go there!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous place. I'd love to go there.
ReplyDeleteWow. I've never had any interest in visiting Argentina until now!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for your comments! It is the most beautiful bookstore that I've been to but I know that there are others around the world--think the one that makes the top of the list is in Portugal. If you ever find yourself in B.A., definitely visit El Ateneo!
ReplyDeleteI don't even know what to say...I could sit in this book store all day. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThis takes my breath away... so beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you got to go here! This has been on my wanderlust wish list for so long. Gorgeous.

ReplyDeleteAnd my family thinks it's hard to get me out of a bookstore now!
ReplyDelete*Thanks guys! Isn't it lovely? I wish I had a better camera at the time because it really is stunning. Too bad there weren't many books in English--or maybe a good thing as I would have been in trouble!
ReplyDeleteGood Lord that's gorgeous. Wow.

ReplyDeleteIsn't El Ateneo Bookstore gorgeous? We were VERY grateful for my sister taking us there...especially after our feet were burning from the MILES she made us walk. ;) Highly recommend a visit if you're headed to Buenos Aires!
