Similar to what I did after the first quarter, I wanted to assess my "Things in 2012" progress to see where I stand with what I wanted to do this year. Can you believe we have just under five months left? Holidays will be here before we know it!
The Book Things
- Read 24 books: 8.5 and 11.5 = 20. The half of a book is one that I read and listened to. I have book clubs to thank for the increased numbers--and of course audio which I'm finding I prefer more and more these days. (numbers as of July 1)
- The Stand: Done! Thanks to you guys and The Standalong!
- f2f bookclub: Work book club is going great. We don't always discuss the book for our entire lunch break but we have lots of laughs. I've also started attending book club at my local indie (a Real Bookstore) and have been having a lot of fun with it. Book club is a trade off for me--I don't get to read as many of the books *I* want to read but the social aspect is one that I need.
- Damn quilt for Scott
- Christmas quilt
- Another quilting project
- Fail on all three accounts. But, I did sandwich together a quilting practice piece
last weekenda few weeks ago! Only to find out that I'm either having problems with my machine or don't know how to use it. Need to take it to the shop. But, top and bottom of Scott's quilt are complete--just gotta quilt the thing.
- Kitchen Appliances: Crockpot, Food Processor, Springform Pan, and currently Ice Cream Maker!
- One dessert/month: I lost count
- Twelve new recipes: Seems like everything I make is new
- Scrapbook recipes: Oops.
The Bloggy Things
- All topics: I'm feeling better organized about blogging lately--at least the writing of posts (or at least I did when I drafted this post). I've basically given up on Google Reader lately and wish I had a better solution to visiting everyone. I try to focus on regular commenters here but even that isn't perfect. I'm way overdue for a babe update and a rambling post. Maybe
Augustlater this month.
- Pinterest: Success! Thanks to the Pin it and Do it challenge--another round started August 1st.
- 5K Race: Done. There was even one morning when I grew a wild hair and did the course just for funsies (it runs right by my house). Would like to do another one when it's cooler.
- 4 cultural events: Dracula Ballet, Jersey Boys. Half points for Comic Con and Rock of Ages. Half for Comic Con because it was too crowded for us to get in (with the babe in tow); half for Rock of Ages because...well...it was sucktastic. (read: I loved it inspite of its terribleness)
- Exercise. Hit or miss. I wish I could get up earlier to workout but I just can't seem to give up my sleep. If I do work out it's usually at lunch which I'm not fond of because then I give up reading/blogging time. Right now I average two workouts a week. Not good.
- Photography: Photo a Day May, Photography class with mom, Night safari downtown, Photo a Day May and July (below is a slightly edited shot from my photography class. Not bad, eh? Just brightened the picture a tad)
Whew! So maybe I can be a little more timely at the end of September/beginning of October? And goal is to work on some damn sewing in the next two months. Now to find the time to take my sewing machine to the shop...
How are you doing on your 2012 Things?

I loved this post Trish :) It reminded me of all of the reasons of why you've become one of my favorite bloggers! Yes, I've followed you for years now, but I think we're around the same ages and it's been interesting to see our lives both make some of the same interesting somewhat domestic turns :p While still of course being completely true to ourselves. And did you HAVE to mention how close the holidays are approaching T_T
ReplyDelete*Chris - It's been fun to watch some of my favorite bloggers move beyond books as well and really dive into the variety that is life. Books are wonderful but I'm always wanting more, you know? And to be fair, there are still OVER four months until the holidays. ;) Well, Christmas at least!
DeleteI too am taking stock of my 'things'. What I find is that my energy level really varies during the course of a month and what is very possible and achievable one week may be not so much possible the next. I'm trying to learn how to ride that cycle and do what I can when I can. I hope to join you in accomplishing some sewing projects soon also-- I have some half finished curtains I hope to turn into all the way finished ones!
ReplyDelete*Shieldmaiden - I hear you about the energy levels! I have the same problems--except I think that I burn myself out. I'll go go go and then just drop and take a week to recover. Good luck with the sewing! I've never attempted anything as difficult as curtains but would love to learn. Most of my sewing is straight-line seams. ;)
DeleteTrish, you sound like wonder-woman to me. You are so busy all the time and into so many different things. I really admire your kitchen pursuits: new gadgets, new recipes etc. You sound very organized.
ReplyDeleteSince my daughter had the baby 3.5 months ago, she does very little except GAWK and COO over the baby (I guess not a bad thing) as thus far she has fended off PP depression I was concerned with.
Have a great week and keep on posting.
*Diane - I'm glad to hear that your daughter is doing well! Motherhood is the biggest adjustment in my life I've ever had to make (and am still making). I sound organized but I can assure you I'm not. I do try really hard , though! Would love to be more organized.
DeleteWow, you're doing great!! Every time I see one of these posts I want to do a plan an progress report of my own but I never manage... You should be very proud of yourself - you're doing it all! :)
ReplyDelete*Joanna - LOL! Well, I did draft this post at the beginning of JULY. Took me a month to actually post it. :) Just start making a list and eventually it'll be enough for a post.
DeleteWow, your energy amazes me!
ReplyDelete*Kathy - Thanks Kathy but what this post doesn't mention is the TV watching. I'm not ALWAYS busy. ;)
DeleteDare I say, Wow? I know, I'm copying others above. You're at such a busy but fulfilling time of life, Trish. Your cup overflows, in good ways and bad ways. Mostly good, it seems. Love to hear about what's up in your world.
ReplyDeleteHey, we are coming to the DFW area toward the end of the month for little getaway after our anniversary. We're going to a Cowboys preseason game and a Rangers game. Staying in Arlington, obviously. Always lots of energy in the Metroplex. I'm sure I'd be too far away from you for a meetup (which would need to be on Sunday), but let me know. No worries if it isn't possible. One day we will. :-)
*Kay - There are good and bad things about keeping this busy. I'll be the first to admit that sometimes I take on too much and get overwhelmed and then don't do anything until I can mentally recharge. I've been in recharging mode for about a month now! And I've emailed you about Dallas--I'm pretty flexible on the weekends so keep me posted.
DeleteThe Stand was so much fun and can't wait for the ITalong!
ReplyDeleteI just did my first 5k this past weekend and loved it. So much that since I started running a couple of months ago, I created a separate blog for it and am having a blast with that as well. Swing on by, if you are so inclined: www.thischickwillrun.com
I can't wait to get scared by the clown in IT!
*Natalie - I've been meaning to check out your running blog! I've been wanting to get more involved with running but it's tough to fit it in--NEED to get up earlier but I just can't make myself. And looking forward to IT! (or not...I'm so confused by my emotions!).
DeleteSucktastic is the perfect word for Rock of Ages. :)
ReplyDelete*Trisha - I loved it but Rock of Ages was SO terrible!
DeleteI love this post. I need to make a formal list of Things and get on it. I love how you fit all of this in. Why has it not occurred to me to see if my coworkers want to start a lunch hour book club?
ReplyDelete*Teresa - The book club has been a struggle for us over the years--it kind of waxes and wanes but it's been really fun the past couple of months with a ton of renewed interest (helps to have lots of new coworkers). I hope you can start something up!
DeleteI think you do an awesome number of things, while being a working mom. I have to give credit to the number of books I read to blogging. and trying new recipes too. My scrapbooking has suffered a bit this year, but I've done bigger projects that were waiting. And summer is almost over. There are many things on my list that I'm thinking might not get done. Like painting my front porch railing, and getting grass in the back yard.
ReplyDelete*Irene - If not for blogging I'm really not sure how I would be spending my time. I wouldn't have met some blogging friends who have encouraged the sewing and led me to buying a machine. I would still be reading but not nearly the variety and with such passion. I wouldn't experiment with the cooking like I do. Blogging has really helped me focus my passions! Good luck with the scrapbooking! That's one thing that I've always wanted to get into but always falls to the wayside. Hopefully summer lasts for another month for you before it starts getting too cool!
DeleteTrish - I am in awe - total awe!! I never felt very productive when my kids were as young as Elle, but you seem to have found a good balance. My 2012 'Things' have taken a back seat this summer - everyone is home, my mother has been in the hospital a couple of times, blah, blah, blah... so reading, blogging, and commenting have fallen way off. Hope it all falls back into place as we head toward fall.
ReplyDelete*JoAnn - I have to thank Scott for being my partner--sometimes it doesn't feel like it but we have a pretty nice 50/50 split in the house which allows me a bit of freedom. I've also had to let go of some of the guilt and clean when I can clean but not stress over it if I can't. You know? I think if you put what you do on paper it would be a lot more than it seems... I think summer is meant to be taken easy--I hope you're able to enjoy the rest of it.
DeleteThe end of summer is a good time to take stock. I agree with the others - I'm totally blown away by how much you get done! Can I borrow some of your energy?
ReplyDelete*Teatimereader - LOL! I need that extra energy for when I burn out--which is more frequent than I like to share. Think it's time I write a "what you don't see" post. ;)
DeleteI keep meaning to revisit my 12 for 12, but then I think about it and realize...major fail. I'd probably get all depressed if I thought about too much, so I just prefer to avoid all the self-reflection. :-D
ReplyDeleteYou, however, are rockin' it.
This blog post made me so proud of you and then instantly feel like I am the laziest person in the entire world. :) I don't know how you do it but I am impressed, lady! And I love the night picture you took! So great to see you yesterday, miss you so much!
