Bleak House Read-a-Long in November

Bleak House!!  Ok, you may have seen me mention on twitter that I'm swearing off readalongs for the rest of the year. But to be fair I did know that this one was a big possibility and have been planning on it for a few months. ;)

Jenny Girl is hosting a Bleak House readalong (can I call it a Bleakalong?) in November and December. Details on her blog. I'll be reading and listening...narrator is Simon Vance. Mmmmm.

So, join us?!   The more the merrier!

  1. Wait. You say it is Simon?!?! Oh MAN! Why do I miss these important facts? I just downloaded Anna Karenina and now you tell me I should have bought Bleak House instead? NOW what do I do?

    1. Care - Well you know I'm going to say Join Me! :) Although with your listening pace you could probably finish both by the end of the year.

  3. Have fun! I did a Bleak House readalong back in 2010, and it turned out to be one of the worst books I'd ever read. Couldn't STAND it! :(

    1. Amanda - Yup! My copy is from when you had your readalong. Would have to look at the calendar to see why I didn't read...guessing I was probably trying to get pregnant or in my first trimester and tired.

  4. Girl, you are officially crazy! I haven't read any Dickens this year, so I may join. It's much more fun reading these really long ones with others along for the ride. I'm on the fence. We'll see how I feel at the end of the month. The fact that Simon Vance is narrating definitely has sway.

  6. Heh. I'm doing a Bleak House read-along too! Except mine will go over the winter. We're going to follow the actual serial publication schedule and just read 3-4 chapters a week. So if you fall behind, feel free to come catch up with us. :-)

    1. Amy - too funny!! I think I've seen more readalongs for this one than any other book. I'll be sure to check out your schedule and try to join some of the discussions.

  7. Oh, Trish, Trish, Trish. I did a combo read/listen of Bleak House a couple of years ago. Started with Amanda's readalong, but finished months and months after everyone else. Simon Vance is the BEST... good luck!

BTW, I downloaded Vance's narration of David Copperfield during audible's last BOGO sale. Maybe you can join me later?;-)

    1. JoAnn -my copy is actually from Amanda's readalong! I've been wanting to read this one for so long! This really is my last readalong for this year but I'd be up for DC next year. Also planning Vanity Fair with Melissa.

  9. Hmm, tempting, but I really don't have the time. Keep the read-alongs coming though! And happy reading/listening (Simon Vance is a fantastic narrator)!

  10. Just checked my library and it's not available to download. Honestly, I breathed a sigh of relief. I've just added Henrietta Lacks, The Chaperone, The Twelve and And When She Was Good to my Nano (in addition to all the others I already have waiting), so I'm probably set for a few months. :)

  11. I've read BH in print and also listed to Simon Vance's audiobook version (while studying/reviewing for quals). You'll enjoy it! (It helped that I usually had a print copy handy while listening so that I could check the names, remind myself who was who, etc. There are 37 trillion characters, and they all have 41 bajillion nicknames or aliases.)
