Cookbook Challenge!

I was doing a little Bloggiesta bloghopping last weekend when I discovered Cynni’s (@Uniflame) Cookbook Challenge at her blog She Likes Bento. Since I have a mountainous amount of cookbooks and have actually thought about making this a personal challenge next year when Operation wraps up, I’m in! I hope you’ll join as well. Here are her short rules (in her words):

Some rules:
– You can use any cookbook you like, one or multiple, it doesn’t matter BUT
– It have to be cookbooks that you barely used, so no cooking from your favorites
– Make a post you are participating in the challenge and link that below
– Please make a short post about your accomplishments, it doesn’t have to be full recipes (you can if you want), but a wrap up with which recipes you tried is also fine. (there will be a link up for that later)
– Sign ups stay open during the whole of October and November so jump in any time you want.

Cynni has different levels of participation and I’m going with Creative Croissant (3-5 recipes). I’m also going to use Rachael Ray’s Express Lane Meals. I’ve had this cookbook for years but don’t cook out of it very often (or ever) mostly because it doesn’t have any pictures and the ingredient lists are incredibly long. And nothing takes just 30 minutes. :) So, basically I’ll be using it as a last-ditch effort to enjoy this cookbook. Are you familiar with it?

Sounds like fun, ya? Hop over to Cynni’s to see all the details.

Happy cooking!

Every weekend, Beth Fish Reads hosts Weekend Cooking.  “Weekend Cooking is open to anyone who has any kind of food-related post to share: Book (novel, nonfiction) reviews, cookbook reviews, movie reviews, recipes, random thoughts, gadgets, fabulous quotations, photographs.”  Hope you’ll join the fun!

  1. Trish, I have this exact same cookbook, and I never use it, either! A friend actually gave it to me when she was moving overseas, so I don’t think SHE ever used it. I’ll be keeping an eye out to see if you make any good recipes from it during the challenge…

  2. I don’t have the cookbook — and like Kathy, I’m not much of Rachael Ray fan. I’ve been thinking of joining the challenge.

  3. Good opportunity to give that Rachael Rae cookbook a last chance :) Loooong lists of ingredients tend to wear me down. LOL that Beth has the same cookbook xD

  4. Yay! So glad you’re doing Cynni’s challenge, too. I chose a bunch of seasonal cookbooks from which I haven’t cooked. I can’t wait to get going.

Have you thought about how you’re going to report on your progress? I’m thinking of sharing one of the recipes with credit to the book and author, of course. And maybe a mini cookbook review in the same post. Or just reporting what I’m doing on twitter. Ambitious vs. Lazy. Let’s see who wins. ;)

  5. It was between this cookbook and a Giada one at the used bookstore today. But I bought Giada….This looks like a fun challenge.

  6. I tend to skip a recipe too if the ingredient lists are too long.

I actually needed this challenge myself badly, that is why I set it up. It is actually thanks to you, Trish. Because I saw you setting up all kinds of personal challenges and of course Pin it and Do it, I thought I would do one too! So fun that you are joining in!

  7. I’ll be joining this one too, I have way too many cookbooks I never cook from. I don’t have this book, but I do have something else by Rachel Ray and have never made anything from it either. Something about the recipes doesn’t do it for me.

  8. Nooooooo! I can’t do any more challenges, but this one is very tempting. I only just did my first Weekend Cooking post ever today, so I’ll have to stick with trying to post another one sometime as my own personal challenge.
I’m not familiar with any Rachel Ray cookbooks, but it sounds like this one should go to the next library used book sale if the challenge doesn’t push it into your favorites category!

  9. Les

I have far too many cookbooks that I’ve never cooked from, so this challenge is just what I need to give me that extra push! Thanks for the heads-up, Trish. I’ll put my post together later today and link to it on Cynni’s blog.

BTW, I’ve never tried anything of Rachel Ray’s, but I used to love her show. Haven’t watched in several years now, though. Good luck!
