Ahem. Second, July 1st means that we are halfway through 2013. *cries* I think it's just a part of getting older that time seems to go more and more quickly, huh? It really isn't fair and this year has blown by so far. The next quarter will be busy as all get out as the weeks tick down before baby and the last quarter will be a blur as newborn baby throws our collective world off orbit.
At the beginning of the year I posted about the Things I'd Like to Do in 2013 and I even jotted a few of them down in my notebook (though not everything from the post is noted below). Confession--I knew when I drafted the Things in 2013 post that I was [5 weeks] pregnant and looking back I think I might have been kind of crazy pants for some of my goals (run a 10k race? Really?), but all the same here we are...halfway through the year.
The Sewing Things
*Hexes. Let's start with the accomplishments, shall we? Without counting I'm going to guess that I have about 200 hexes basted and I have stitched 24 of them together into little clusters. I've always said that this will be a long-term project so I'm not even going to tell you how far I still have to go. Is it crazy to think I'll be working on these while nursing a newborn? It's easy work--mostly done while watching TV.
Even better is that I have FINISHED the top to my Christmas quilt. I honestly didn't think I would ever be done with this beast and if you follow me on Instagram or Twitter you're probably as tired of me talking about it as I was tired of sewing it. The top is 6x7 feet and I haven't figured out how I'm going to quilt it yet but I'm not going to worry about that until later this year (or possibly next year).
*Scott's Quilt? No progress. Except I have finally figured out how to proceed with quilting it so I'm going to work on that while alternating with the baby quilt. No really, I am. As soon as I can get my sister to help me baste the layers together since it about kills me to bend over on the ground.
The Reading Things
*Read/listen to 24 books in 2013. I've surpassed this goal with almost 26 books. I have been doing much more reading this year than in the years past which probably accounts for some of my lack of doing in the other categories. I do know that my reading will probably slow down with the baby so I'm not making anymore reading commitments for the rest of the year.
*Read Outlander is my only other bookish goal and I'm saving this for when the baby comes and I need a nursing/rocking book.
The Crafty Things
*Recipe Scrapbook = No progress. I should be doing this instead of hexes while watching TV but alas.
*Journaling = Mostly successful. I decided to start Project Life this year and I'm about 8 weeks behind. Mostly because I was focusing more on sewing than scraping for the past couple of months.
*Photography Class = No progress. And it won't happen this year. No time right now and definitely won't make the time once baby comes. Will have to pass this on to another year.
The Kitchen Things
*Operation Use My Kitchen Stuff = Stalled. I'm currently working on the Trifle and have completed four so far but eventually I need to call it a day and move on to the next appliance. I did have great success with Operation Bundt Pan earlier this year!
*Use My Cookbooks = No progress. My cooking has been fairly basic this year. I haven't cracked open a cookbook in months! Maybe in the fall when I'm home with Baby Billie Jean but I'm not going to stress over it.
The Miscellaneous Things
*Run 10k Race. To be fair I was training for this when I got pregnant and I had half a mind that I might actually run the 10k when I was about 8 weeks along. But then I got tired and that was that. As soon as I am cleared in the fall, though, I plan to start Couch to 5K and hopefully get up to 10k by the end of the year.
*A letter/card a month. Oh so sad Trish. So sad! And seriously--how easy is this to do! Ugh.
*Attend Four Cultural Events. I'm going to count the Dallas Arboretum for this one. And then last week I went and saw Flashdance. I really wanted to go to the zoo and do a few other things with Elle before the weather got too hot, but here we are in the hot hot weather.
Since I know someone will mention it in the comments I'll beat you to it and say yes, I'm also growing a baby this year. It does make one very tired. Unfortunately I think the thing that has suffered the most is my blogging. I've become fairly lackadaisical about my posting and even more about the commenting. I'm hoping that some of this changes when I'm home with the baby but I also remember being mostly brain dead for the first several weeks with Elle. Overall 2013 has felt a bit more relaxed and I like that! I'm sure 2014 will run me ragged. ;)
How was the first half of 2013 treated you? Have you met some of your goals so far? Anything that you're hoping to accomplish in the second half of the year?
