Right Now I Am...

Well well well! We are back from our trip to San Francisco/Anderson Valley for my little sister’s wedding. It was a fun fun trip and so good to see so many family members and friends, but it’s also nice to be back home. I can’t believe we’re already a week into October and I so so wish we had five weekends in this month. I’m not ready for November to be here! There’s just never enough time, huh? Scott will be traveling again this month and I really wanted to go camping one more time before the weather cooled down too much, but I don’t think it’s in the cards. Maybe a trip to the Texas State Fair instead? Who knows.

Pictures from our trip–at least what was on my camera (which isn’t much). The pictures have absolutely nothing to do with the text below…I’m just shamelessly using this post as an excuse to share. A note on my sister’s dress–it was her husband’s grandmother’s dress from the 40s. She was gifted it by her sister-in-law with instructions that she could do whatever she wanted with it. She had it altered to remove the puff sleeves and add the lace backing/sweetheart neck. The dress is more gold than it appears in the pictures below.

Listening To: Books! I finished listening to Bad Feminist and I am just starting Something Wicked This Way Comes. I do hope to write a post on Bad Feminist–it was a fantastic listen even if I had some quibbles about the actual essays. Music-wise, I’ve been listening to a lot of Pandora at work–Xx, DeVotchKa, Alabama Shakes Radio. I also posted recently some songs I’ve been loving.

Reading: I’m about 33% through Night Film and 25% through Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill (I started the latter because I needed an e-book for the airplane). I need to start Drood so will likely rush through Night Film so I don’t have two paper books going. I plan on reading ALL the creepy books this month! So not typical for me. And if you’re wondering, I’m not loving Night Film–it’s just not drawing me in.

Watching: Well, since we have to wait SIX months until Outlander is back on, I’m not watching anything right now. Though Gilmore Girls is finally on Netflix and I think I might start watching (for the first time). Otherwise not much!

Eating: I need to pick a cookbook for this month’s Cook it Up Challenge. I’m thinking soups or slow cooker. Though that would be more tempting if we had a bit cooler weather!

(he’d die if he knew I posted this picture…)

Making: Last month I started a monthly quilt class at the local sew/vac store. I’m approximately 50 years younger than all of my classmates (an exaggeration) and I have no idea what I’m doing, but I hope to learn a lot about my machine. Yes I can sew patchwork and perform basic quilting, but this class will teach me all sorts of techniques. ALSO! Also, I finished up all of my hexie flowers. So now I have to start sewing them together. Will be perfect for Gilmore Girls bingeing.

Planning: Nothing at the moment. Soon there will be Halloween costumes and then Thanksgiving and then Christmas. This is the first time in a year that we don’t have a trip on the horizon.

Feeling: Ask me in a few days? Going out of town is always a lot of work, especially with three two children. The girls travel so so well, really so well, but Evie doesn’t sleep easily when not in her own bed and so I shared a bed with her and neither of us got much sleep. It’s always so nice coming home to your own bed, isn’t it? Now to put the house back in order. We got in late Sunday evening and it’s always much easier when we have one more weekend day between travel and “life” to help buffer the transition!

Loving: That picture above and that beautiful girl. My heart bursts.

Wanting: The weather to cool down a bit! We had a short cold front come in but today we were supposed to be 95. This is not my idea of October weather!

Looking Forward To: The moment when life slows down just a little bit. Oh wait…

Would love to hear what YOU are listening to, reading, watching, eating, making, planning, feeling, loving, wanting, thinking, and looking forward to.

  1. Love *all* of your pics, but oh my heavens, that one of Elle…perfection!!! That is one of the loveliest photos I’ve ever seen! Glad you all had a wonderful time on your trip. And I hope you get your autumn weather soon, Trish! We’ve been getting into the 30s some nights here…and I LOVE it. :)

Love the pictures — looks like a fabulous wedding and great time with family! We were just in San Francisco in May and love it more on every visit.

Right now, I’m kind of laying low… work has been busy, haven’t been reading much, etc. I did just finish Samantha Verant’s Seven Letters From Paris, which was romantic and light, and I’m getting into Stephanie Perkins’ Isla and the Happily Ever After. Hopefully more tonight!

  3. The pictures are fabulous!! Elle is so adorable in the shot of her alone…how do you stand it!! Have a wonderful week.

  4. Elisabeth

Thanks for the info about Gilmore Girls, I have been wanting to watch this for the longest time! Am reading The Ocean At The End Of The Lane for BG and listening to the new Bohjalian book. I feel as if it is not as good as his older works. I am disappointed it is not up to his usual standards. My mind wanders which is a sign it is not holding my attention and I hate going back on audio.

Pics are great and I won’t tell Scott!

  5. Those pictures! How very lovely. Your girls are so pretty in their dresses! And your sister’s dress, I love how it’s got all that history in it. It looks like a wonderful wedding.

  6. Gorgeous pictures! Thanks for sharing. I’m glad you had fun in SFO. I would love to go back there some time soon. There’s so much to see in that city.

  7. So nice to read this post! I have anxiety pretty bad and lately it is on full blast. So I don’t feel like blogging on my own blog but enjoy reading others blogs. I love that you have the courage to go to a quilting class. I have thought about it but it makes me a little nervous since I don’t know anything at all.

  8. Your pics are so pretty!

I can’t wait ’til Outlander comes back on. I’m sort of tempted to read the books now just so I can know what happened. ;)

  9. Gilmore Girls! Great pics! It is funny because the pic of all the little girls int he white dresses reminded me of a Gilmore Girls episode… I can not remember which one but you will know it when you see it. :)

I love the wedding photos!! The flower girls, all of them, are so darn cute.

Night Film. I loved it! But it took about 100 pages for me to get into it. Are you there yet?

What am I listening to, reading, watching, eating, making, planning, feeling, loving, wanting, thinking, and looking forward to?

I watched American Horror Story last night. One word description, freaky. I love that show. I hope the story can hold up to the acting this time around.

Reading A Sudden Light by Garth Stein. I wasn’t planning to pick it up just now, but I did because for some reason I am blowing through my ARCs, just wanting to be done with them but I am liking it a lot so far.

I am at work right now and in between stuff but I am almost done with my coffee and then I am off to a meeting. Fun! So NOT fun. I am looking forward to tonight’s choir concert but it makes for a long night.

  11. The girls are adorable in their wedding finery! Well, they’re always adorable, but pouffy dresses just add to it. And the Golden Gate Bridge! I never get tired of looking at it.

    • They loved those dresses but sadly they are BROWN now. And the golden gate was awesome! The first time we visited we couldn’t see the bridge as we were driving across it, so this was a treat.

  12. Your daughters are adorable, Trish, and I love the back of your sister’s dress. So lovely that she got to add her own touch to her grandmother-in-law’s dress.

  13. Oh, Trish! These are such wonderful photos!! I love seeing the ones of the Golden Gate. I’ve driven across that bridge several times in my life and don’t have a single picture of it! Probably because I’m always the one driving…

The wedding pics are fantastic. Your girls are so beautiful and your hubby looks likes he has a great sense of humor. Your sister’s dress is lovely, as is Elle’s. Aren’t family gatherings great? I’m off to CA in two days and can’t wait to see my cousins, many of which I haven’t seen in almost a decade!

Hope you’re getting settled back in. I have one more trip (Christmas in OR) to look forward to and then our calendar is completely empty. Kind of sad, huh?

  14. I love San Francisco … I wish I could go again soon! And Evie looks so cute in that pic with you! Her eyes are just so blue!

Good for you starting a class for quilting! You should be a pro at it now. :) Ha ha … I really need to get out to a class or book club or something on my own in the evening … it’d be great to just go out and meet new people!
