Bloggiesta To Do List

So, this weekend is Bloggiesta which is a virtual “fix up your blog” party. I seem to only really participate in this event during the fall–maybe it’s something about the change of seasons? I didn’t think I had a ton I wanted to do, but then I started creating my lists and holy cow! Of course I’ll be happy with just drafting up a few posts and updating some of my pages. It is nice to have this focused time for the blog, though! I always seem to be much more motivated during Bloggiesta.

This time I’m also hosting a mini-challenge! Please check out my post on creating post templates. After working on this post (and recreating the wheel from previous posts), I think I’ll create a Bloggiesta template for next time!

Go sign up for all the Bloggiesta fun! I’ll just be updating this post all weekend if you want to pop back and see my progress.

On my To-Do List:

  1. Update Reviews by Title and Reviews by Author and Recipe Box
  2. Add Pin It Button to images (used a plug-in)
  3. Add post ideas to Evernote
  4. Create a new header?
  5. Clean up tags/categories (groan)
  6. Scour mini-challenges
  7. Visit participants and cheer them on

Pipe Dream Goals:

  1. Fix signature on old posts
  2. Fix links on old “Trish’s Reading Nook” posts
  3. Get my email inbox to one page

Questions I have:

  1. How do I add a comment link at the bottom of my posts (yes, in addition to under the title)?
  2. How can I get rid of feedburner RSS address without switching services or losing followers?
  3. If I change old images on pinned posts, what happens? (why do this? because many of my old pictures are horizontal when vertical pins “better”)
  4. If I add an auto signature to my posts if it will add a signature to all my old posts? (thus duplicating my signature)

Posts to Draft:

  1. Packing for Mars / Drums of Autumn mini-reviews
  2. American Gods full review
  3. Top Ten Tuesday – Fall List / And maybe some upcoming TTTs?
  4. Elle Right Now
  5. Mesa Verde / Other trip pictures
  6. Pin it and Do It link-up for Monday / Inspiration on Monday Shell drafted anyway
  7. Sunday Bookish Funday (topic??)
  8. Pregnancy Stitch Fix postbloggiesta

Mini Challenges:

  1. Turned my pins into Rich Pins thanks to Alexia’s mini-challenge! See how all my pinned posts have the little heart with my blog name?
  2. I created a template for future Bloggiesta to-do lists based on all the major sections of this post! Mini-challenge is my own template mini-challenge. :)

Things Not On My Original List:

  1. Updated my Audiobook Review Index

Final Thoughts:

Um also…Want to help me out with a blog topic? *here’s me begging* *per usual* *blows kisses*

Are you participating in Bloggiesta? What was on your agenda for the event?

  1. I’m not participating in Bloggiesta (have mad massive issues with my blog ever since upgrading to WP 4.3 and have already spent countless hrs on the back end of the blog), BUT would be very interested in any answers you get to your RSS Feeddburner question. I recently learned Google has stopped maintaining Feedburner, so I’m switching over my email subscription service to MadMimi and deactivated my feed burner plug-ins, but not sure what else I need to do. Amy Lynn Andrews has a good post on how you don’t need any additional RSS Feed plug-ins (including Feedburner) b/c WP does the feed automatically.

    • I’ll have to search out that post on Feedburner. I know you don’t need any RSS plug-ins, but I don’t know how to get rid of it! I’ve had nothing but problems with my feed ever since moving from Blogger (including when 4 months ago I lost about 100 Feedly subscribers! because my feed just upped and disappeared). I must have done something because before that my feed in Feedly was just a regular feed but now it’s showing Feedburner again. I just don’t know how to get away from that address and no one seems to be able to answer my questions (except…NO you don’t need Feedburner). Sigh.

I’m sorry you’ve been having so many problems with WP 4.3. :( Bloggiesta on twitter this weekend might actually be a good resource if you need to query questions.

      • I need to get out of Feedburner too. I know there is at least one sevice, Feedblitz, that will migrate your blog’s Feedburner subscribers to Feedblitz. They have a whole document explaining the process. I keep meaning to try it, but time. I know there are several other options too but didn’t come across any others that prevented losing followers. If you found any other answer, I’m interested as well!

  2. I’m not officially participating, although I now have rich pins. Good luck with your to-do list.

Topics?? Hummmm. Things you’re doing to get ready for your new one? (moving the girls into one room, redecorating, thoughts on work, how E & E are reacting)

    • Ha! Sounds like a good rambling post. But honestly–15 weeks to go and we haven’t done ONE thing to get ready for the baby. Thankfully we have everything we need already between the other two girls, but I am feeling rather guilty about not having prepared for this sweet little thing at all. LOL! I can see now how sometimes youngest children feel the shaft (I’m the oldest baby). ;)

  3. I love love love that you added a questions list! I think we need to encourage people to do that in the future! Hmmm….

  4. This is the kind of thing I should participate in. I’m fairly happy with the state of my blog, but I’m sure that, if I sat down with a pen and paper, I’d come up with a whole slew of things I’d want to change/fix up. I just don’t know if I’m going to be able to work up the motivation or set aside the time this weekend! We’ll see.

Regardless, best of luck with your goals! Isn’t writing lists the best?

  5. I’m really considering signing up. I have so much to do on my blog and never seem to make time to do it. Bloggiesta should motivate me to do that!

Also for your signature, there is a plugin for WP I can’t remember off the top of my head, that allows you to replace an image with a new image. Perhaps you could do that for your old signature? But I think the question you are asking is if you manually added an old signature to posts and then change the setting to auto add it, will it appear twice – I believe that answer is yes. I did that when changing to hosted from

    Good luck with your list!

    • Yes–I tried this during an old bloggiesta and had the same results (where it was duplicating my signature on about a 1000 old posts. The ideal solution would be to just auto add the image to all new posts going forward. This is one thing that Blogger does that WP doesn’t seem to. I just had my fingers crossed that maybe something has changed in the past year so I kept it on my list. ;)

  6. I think my favorite part of your list is your “Pipe Dream Goals.” Don’t we always have things we’d love to get to but know time-constraints and other factors keep us from getting to them? I wish you luck with all your goals!

  7. I hope you get a lot done during Bloggiesta!

I checked out your reviews by title page. I was updating mine the other day and it is getting LONG. I was wondering if other bloggers still do that – I’m glad to see you do! :)

  8. I signed up a bit late this time, but have found bloggiesta to be very motivational when it comes to doing some bloggy type housekeeping. Thank you for your template mini challenge! I found it very useful :)

Good luck with the rest of your to do list. Happy bloggiesta!
