Well if time flew quickly with my second baby, it is going at warp speed with my third. Make it stop, make it stop!! But every day I am more and more in love with this sweet babe. Cara is a joy and I’m so happy she’s part of our family.
Sleep – Cara is a great little sleeper most of the time. We did go through a bit of a rough patch the first of the month when she would wake up about 20 minutes after I put her back down in the middle of the night–sometimes keeping me up for about an hour–but she stopped that around 7 weeks when she magically started sleeping until 3 then 4 then 5 in the morning. On the other hand, though, this past week she’s also been going down at night around 10. Not by our choice! I’m not sure what happened to get her off track, but hopefully we can get back on soon again as 8-10 is my time of the day to completely decompress.
Naps are still hit or miss. She’s been waking up around 8 in the morning and sometimes goes back down until 9 or so. She takes a morning nap and an afternoon nap, but sometimes she catnaps all day in 30 minute stretches and sometimes her nap (generally the afternoon) lasts for three hours! I’ve started running my errands in the morning rather than afternoon in hopes that she’ll catnap en route and then take a longer nap in the afternoon. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t! She does still sleep in the rock n play in our closet. Evie has moved to a big girl bed so the crib is free, but I just can’t. I don’t know why I get so worked up about it–both older girls adjusted really well to the crib when we made the transition from our room.
Eating – And she’s still my best nursing baby. She’s on par for weight with Elle–11 pounds even at her 2 month check up (a little less than 50%) but she is such an efficient eater that it hardly takes any time to nurse her. At night we’re up for maybe 10 minutes and then she goes back down. My only annoyance with this is that she tends to only take one side but then 30 minutes later will want the other.
I nurse her every 2 and a half hours during the day and usually clusterfeed in the evening (you know, when the girls get home, dinner needs to be made, baths are taken, and bedtime rituals). But, I guess if it helps her sleep 8 hours at night, I don’t mind the clusterfeeding. I haven’t cut anything out of my diet, but I do try to limit dairy products. I always regret it when I eat too much pizza or something spicy.
Development / Personality – Cara is so sweet and seems to be a happy baby. She’s content most of the time though she does seem to get bored fairly easily. She doesn’t care for her activity mat at all but is sometimes OK just hanging out in her bouncer seat or the swing for a while. She likes being read to and loves when I sing to her. She coos quite a bit–though not as much as Evie–but hasn’t given me any good laughs yet. She does smile a lot. She likes her baths and loves to talk to me when I’m changing her diaper. She hates her carseat though seems to be getting better. She loves going for walks and luckily our weather has permitted us to go on several over the past couple of weeks.
No big developmental milestones over the past month–though she is starting to grab onto things (my hair! my shirt!) and is so strong. She does great with tummy time but when she’s had enough she’s figured out how to roll onto her back. I’ll put her back on her stomach and she’ll roll right over again. She holds her head up well, but she’ll still let me hold her like a baby (something both older girls had grown out of by this time). Sometimes I’ll spoil her and hold her while she naps–especially on days when she’s only catnapping 20-30 minutes here and there. Oh. And she’s found her fists. She doesn’t suck on them often, but I’m sure she’ll be a thumbsucker just like her sisters.
And the part you care about…
Unfortunately this is the only one I had with that great smile of Cara. The girls wanted to join in on the picture fun and Elle was quite rowdy. Evie was patting Elle’s back for some reason, and Cara decided to just ham it up. Silly girls!!
If you ask Evie what the baby’s name is, she says “Baby Sisser.” She calls her Cara every once in a while so I know she does know her name. Elle is still smitten, especially now that Cara is smiling more often. Those girls–I can only imagine what the future will hold for them! (As I’m the oldest of three girls close in age, I can imagine…)
With a heart full of love…and sometimes insanity. ;)
